I don't really need to remind everyone what today is.
I think we all remember what happened 8 years ago today.
The Colonel was working in the city at the time and didn't have to be at work until 2:00 in the afternoon.
Although he wasn't a Colonel at the time.
He was a just a normal person,
working a normal job,
providing for his family.
But that all changed 8 years ago for our family.
We had just dropped Olivia off at the Christian school she was attending.
She was in 3rd grade.
We decided to head to the park for a morning walk.
As we were walking around the park with Michael in his stroller, our beloved city was being attacked.
By the time we made it home, both towers were on fire.
Growing up in Queens, NY, I remember when they were building the towers.
I remember the many times we would cross the George Washington Bridge and how I would look out
the window of our car
staring at the beauty of the Towers.
I remember moving my desk to be in front of the window so I could see the beauty of downtown Manhattan and those beautiful towers
from the 55th floor of the Empire State Building where I worked every day.
This is the way the world remembers the Twin Towers...
But I choose to remember them this way...in all their majesty.
Take a few moments today to remember how our world was changed 8 years ago.
Share with your children the terror we all lived through.
And if you see a firefighter or policeman or even a military person today,
thank them for the sacrifice they continue to make to protect this
wonderful, beautiful country of ours.

Labor Day I walked the Mackinac Bridge. But that was not the highlight of my weekend. The highlight? Shaking hands or giving high fives to 70 of the military people who were graciously standing alongside both sides of the bridge providing security so our walk was safe. Thanking them was truly inspiring and on each person's face, a smile appeared. I saw one other person doing what I was. Imagine if all 45,000 who walked thanked at least 10 military people. What a wonderful but small gift compared to what they sacrifice for us and our country. Please shake your husband's hand for me and tell him THANK YOU!!!

I'm praying for our country because I fear many have forgotten.
That awful day 8 years ago, the nation turned to GOD. Congress sang to HIM on the steps of the Capitol. WE sought each other for comfort, gave blood, prayed for survivors and thanked the heroes among us!
When did that dependence vanish?
When did "self-centeredness" take over again? How can we reclaim what is truly good about America...Godly values and sacrifice? GOD help us.
A BIG "Thank You!" to your family for serving your community and country.
Blessings always ~

We live in central Orange County. I grew up in a wonderful family neighborhood in Yonkers, we moved from there in 1968 to Rockland County. After Michael was born we built our first home in Sugarloaf in OC.
We love it here. Thanks for asking! Hugs, Loretta

Thank you for that wonderful post. I didn't post anything because I would cry every time I think about it and then I got too angry. I am taking cinnamon rolls down to my fire house this weekend.

Hi sunshine,
What a great post! Very powerful,
and encouraging. We do need to be so grateful for those that put their lives on the line of us daily. They are the true heros,
not all these sports figures!!
What a awful day that was, and how it rocked and changed our world forever. I am thankful that we have a God who knows everything and that nothing takes Him by surprise!! Our lives are truly in His hands.
Blessings Sweetie,
Nellie

Beautiful post. I live in NY but never visited the Twin Towers. I so badly wished I had after 9/11. We are all changed somehow by that awful act of terrorism but we are a strong nation full of wonderful men and women who are willing to risk their lives for us. God bless them all! Hugs, Loretta

I do remember exactly where I was and Joy was just a toddler and the shock of it all. I hope we do remember and everyone comes together as they did after that day. Great post!
I didn't realize you were from there! And please thank the Colonel for our family for her service to our country! 🙂
Have a great day, Lois!

Never to forget. We have an in-law in the buildings that collapsed, her tales of horror are deafening. Another in-law was in the air, his plane was landed within seconds in the middle of the USA. We had a friend that was sitting at a desk where the Pentagon was hit directly, who was severely burned & seen on TV running out of that hole ... God bless them all. Have a lovely weekend. Those images steal my breath. I am so thankful for the men and women who demonstrated to the world their heroic hearts! Even today, those who stand in the gap for us so that 9-11 will never happen again. I would hug every single one of them if I could.
Beautiful post! I did not realize how close you were to the location and the history you have with watching the towers being built.
