Walk Down Memory Lane...

My memories from 2011

~A good book I read~

The Healing
by Wanda Brunstetter
I actually finished this book the week before Christmas.
It was book number 2 in
The Kentucky Brothers series.
It was SOOOOO good.

I have to wait till September 2012
for book number 3.
And yes, there was a  cliff-hanger!

~A great film/movie I watched~

This was a hard one to answer, but I thought the updated
Planet of the Apes
was pretty good...

I remember watching the movies when they came out
on television with my sister in the late 70s and being incredibly
afraid when Charlton Heston found the
Statue of Liberty destroyed.

~A new place I visited~

Southeastern University
where Olivia attends college...

~An inspiring verse or quote I read~

"I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming
conviction that I had nowhere to go.
My own wisdom, and that of all about me, seemed insufficient for the day."
Abraham Lincoln

I have this quote framed hanging in our entryway.
It's been a favorite of mine for years.

~A discovery I made~

I seriously love having a place to "pin" all those recipes I find!

~A new skill I acquired~

Re-learning how to make pie crust...

~A lesson I learned~

Just to keep my mouth shut and remember that not everyone
wants my opinion or wants to live in an organized house.

~A moment I will always remember~

My Colonel walking down the airport hallway in January 2011
after being in Afghanistan for over a year.
The picture is a little blurry but seeing all the people stop him
to shake his hand was so wonderful...

The four of us...

Care to join and do YOUR own memory list?
Leave me a comment and let me know if you do and
I'll be sure to come visit.
Well, I'll probably come visit anyway!

On the menu at our house tonight...
I'm NOT cooking!
Going to my mom's for one final holiday celebration.
Enjoy your day!

  1. It was really fun to read this post. It was so meaningful to see your husband coming HOME! I want to thank him for his service to our country and a big thank you to you and your lovely children for the sacrifices you make while he serves.

  2. I got tears in my eys seeing your Hubs walk past people and have people stop him to shake his hand. It is acts like that which make me proud to be an american.

I also wanted to mention that I too seen the old planet of the apes movies but have not seen the new one. Need to do that.

  3. Good morning! I too got teary eyed looking at the picture of your colonel coming home. What a moment in time for you. And to watch the gratitude of the others, is just priceless, makes it soo worthwhile. Have a good day! HUGS

  4. Looks like a good year at your house. I enjoyed your pictures, but the one that made me teary was the one where your colonel arrived home. I can only imagine how excited and proud you must have felt.
Wishing you and your beautiful family a happy and healthy 2012.

  5. I liked the new Apes movie too. Just watched it again last week. Have a great day.

  7. That is very see the people reach out to shake your husband's hand. Thank him for us too please!

  8. Fabulous list; especially of your Col. coming home. Please tell him, "thank you for serving".

  9. Hello Lois,
I have enjoyed this post - a wonderful way to remember the year! Love the quote - Pinterest is brilliant! I was most touched by the picture of your husband. My daughter's husband is there right now- they're newly weds and this has been difficult! We pray each day for all the soldiers and their safe return! I am happy to be your newest follower!
    God Bless,

  10. I LOVE Wanda Brunstetter. ALL her books are good. I met her in September when we were in Pennsylvania visiting Amish Country. She was having a book-signing and was so nice!

Happy New Year sweet blogging friend!

  11. I enjoyed this post. Like others, the photo of your husband coming home and being recognized for his service is overwhelming.

God bless you and your family in 2012.

  12. Alrighty - you have made a great memory list. I think I like the one where colonel comes off the plane and the four of you.

  14. Thanks to you and yours for your service. and thanks for droping by now and then.wishing You and Yours only by best in 2012.((Hugs))

  15. Thank you for reading my testimony! Not many people do I think, with it at the very bottom of my blog. I am so thankful to be saved. ~~ May I ask what movie that was where C. Heston found the Statue of LIberty destroyed?

We watched an old film last night that he starred in with Jane Wyman. I enjoyed it. I can't think of the title though. The setting was an oil town and he struck it rich and wanted to marry Jane W. She had her little heart set on running her very succesful dress shop. Aha...the name of the movie was 'Lucy Valiant'

  16. i enjoyed walking with you down memory lane. a big thank you to your hubby and to you for service to our country! pinterest, love! pie crust, i need to relearn also! happy new year!
