For some people the Thanksgiving meal is not complete without a slice of pecan pie.  But for me,
growing up we never had pecan pie as part of our Thanksgiving desserts.  It was just the usual apple pie and pumpkin pie.

I really can't remember when exactly we started including pecan pie with the other desserts, I just know I'm happy we do now! My sister always makes the pecan pie and it's always delicious.  And I think it's perfectly fine to have a piece of apple, pumpkin and pecan pie for dessert on Thanksgiving.

Homemade Pecan Pie Recipe

It helps to pre-bake the pie shell.  You don't have to, but it helps keep the pie crust from getting soggy.  It's really up to you. Combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and eggs together.

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans; halved or pieces
  • Recipe for one pie crust

Prepare the Pie Crust
  • Prepare the pie crust by pressing the dough onto the bottom and sides of pie pan.  Bake for 10 minutes in a 375 degree preheated oven.  The crust will not be fully baked as it will go back into the oven with the pie filling.
For the Pie Filling
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and eggs using an electric mixer.
  2. Once the mixture is combined, stir in the pecans.
  3. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie shell.
  4. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until the center is set.
  5. If the pie crust edge is getting too brown,  cover the edges with aluminum foil.
  6. Cool for 30 minutes or refrigerate for 2 hours until chilled before serving.
