Remembering 9/11

Friday, September 11, 2015

There is no Friday Favorites today.  Let's spend some time today remembering 9/11 and what happened 14 years ago when we heard the horrific news of the first airplane hitting the twin towers.

"Where were you 14 years ago today when you
heard the horrific news?"

We were living in Paterson, NJ and
the Colonel was working in Manhattan at the time and
didn't have to be at work until 2:00 in the afternoon.

Although he wasn't a Colonel at the time.
He was a just a normal person,
working a normal job, providing for his family and serving his country
one weekend a month in the Army Reserves.

But that all changed 14 years ago for our family.

We had just dropped Olivia off at school.
She was in 3rd grade.
We decided to head to the park for a morning walk.
As we were walking around the park with Michael in his stroller,
our beloved city was being attacked.

By the time we made it home, both towers were on fire.

Growing up in Queens, NY,  I was just a little girl when they were building the towers.
I remember the many times we would cross the
George Washington Bridge and how I would look out
the window of our car staring at the beauty of the Towers.

I remember moving my desk to be in front of the window
so I could see the beauty of downtown Manhattan and those beautiful towers
from the 55th floor of the Empire State Building where I worked every day.

The world has changed so much since that horrific day 14 years ago.
But one thing remains certain for me...

"For I know that my redeemer lives,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth"
Job 19:25

So let me know where were you

14 years ago when you heard the news.

  1. I love that you said NO PARTY today ... I opted not to mention anything about 9/11 on my blog ... only because it's so disturbing STILL after 14 years :*-( ... 14 years ago I was a stay at home mom and in the middle of an ebay transaction with a sailor overseas. He mentioned that CNN would be airing a segment on his ship and their humantarian work they were doing in the Phillipines. I thought "oh hey, cool, let me turn on CNN and see if I can catch it" ... that was a little before 9am and I wasn't paying attention to what the girl was saying "fire in the towers, etc. not sure if it's a banner plane" etc. (I hate news speculation, FACTS please) ... and then I started watching (who could NOT???) and saw that plane hit the 2nd one and though Oh MY God In Heaven ... just typing that makes me cry :-(
That's where I was on the morning of 9/11 and I still cry when I think back on that. Beautiful pictures and even more beautiful verse.
