Decorating for Fall Outside

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

One of my favorite things to do when fall has arrived is to decorate outside.  Unfortunately, we have so much wind where we live here in this corner of PA, that's it's a little difficult at times.   The wind has been known to blow my scarecrows all over the place; not to mention pots of beautiful mums.  Last year the wind blew over one of my larger heavy clay pots and it cracked into quite a few pieces.  Here are some great ideas to help inspire you to put together some great ideas for your house.

Here's a photo leading up to our front porch...

Fill up a wheelbarrow with pumpkins and display somewhere in your garden.  These are the pumpkins that my hubby and I grew this year in our garden...

Hollow out pumpkins and fill with potted flowering mums inside to make a great statement for your walkway...

Another idea for your wheelbarrow, add flowers and place by your front door...

This idea of "Family Pumpkins" is so adorable!  Make one for each member of your family...

Add a hay bundle with various sized pumpkins and a potted mum plant to a corner of your porch or front stoop...

One year we added cornstalks to either side of our front door.  It was pretty for about a few days until the squirrels noticed them and kept trying to pull the corncobs off!  This entranceway is so beautiful...

More cornstalks!  Notice the stacked pumpkin topiaries....

This arrangement looks BEAUTIFUL...

I think we all have one of these scarecrows ready to greet our guests.  I actually have three..

This idea is really thinking outside of the box.  This is a candle wall sconce that is attached to an outside wall  holding mini pumpkins and a berry vine...

If you have a fountain, why not fill it up with some gourds...

How about some luminaries to guide your guests to your front door.  These look easy and pretty...

And finally, these "mummy lights" are a cute and fun way to decorate for trick or treating.  You can use battery operated candles to be extra safe.  I think they would be a fun way to welcome all the kids in the neighborhood to your front door on Halloween.  Head over to Hi Sugarplum for the complete instructions...

How do YOU decorate the outside of your house for the fall season?

If you have a photo, come share it with me over on my Walking on Sunshine Facebook Page HERE.

  5. Great picks! I love to decorate outside too and yes, sometimes the wind blows things away. But usually my pumpkins and other decorations survive pretty well. Happy Fall!
