Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Since it's summertime and we're all spending more time grilling, we need to talk about Barbecue Sauce.Yes, I usually use a bottle one, mostly "Sweet Baby Rays." But every now and then I get the urge to make this delicious homemade recipe; that also freezes well.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (7 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons spicy Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ seasoning mix
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups water
Directions:

Whisk all the ingredients together in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Reduce heat to maintain a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until reduced by about half or desired thickness; about 1 hour.
Cool completely before transferring to an airtight container and storing in the refrigerator.
Use the barbecue sauce within 1 week or freeze for up to 6 months.

  2. I'm lazy, so I just buy mine. Mostly Baby Ray's, too. I'm looking forward to seeing what you're going to put your BBQ sauce on!
