Price of Gasoline...

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

This week's Tuesday's Question is a repeat from seven months ago.
It's also a TWO-PART question, so make sure you read all the way through before answering.

But it's a GREAT question and I really do want to know YOUR updated answer...

"What is the price of gasoline
in your hometown?"

Last February when I first asked this question, the price for a gallon
of gasoline in our little corner of PA was $3.69.

Yesterday I noticed the price is $3.79, so that's NOT too much of an increase.
Although it was higher a few weeks ago, closer to $3.90.

It's still affecting our family since filling up just ONE of our three cars can cost us close to $75.00.
Our cars are all pretty old, with tons of mileage, but we're grateful and thankful
that they're still running GREAT!

Just for fun, I found out what the price of gasoline was when I started driving back in 1985.
According to Google, the price for a gallon of gasoline was $1.20, however,
I remember filling up my car for 92 CENTS!

"Do you remember what the price was when YOU
first started driving?"

Leave me a comment and let me know YOUR answers to BOTH questions!

  1. Well this really tells my age but I started driving in the seventies and gas was just 35 cents a gallon!! I noticed the other day when we got gas that it was $3.69 a gallon.

  2. Today for premium gas it was $4.50. I don't remember what it was right when I started driving (in 1997) but I do remember getting upset one day when it went up to $1.13/gallon. I thought that was crazy!!

  3. Lois,

I don't remember what the price of gasoline was when I started drving but I do remember that when I moved out on my own I would fill the tank at the midway mark and it ran about $10 to fill the gas tank the rest of the way. However, when we bought the van in 2005, gas was 79 cents a gallon on base. I wanted a more fuel efficient vehicle but the husband wanted the van and besides gas is cheap right? :p

  5. Oh boy, I am telling my age. Gas was 25 cents a gallon when I first started driving. My friends and I would chip in and buy $1 worth of gas and cruise main street.

Here today it is right at $4 a gallon.

  6. Hi Lois, I filled up yesterday at Costco where gas is the cheapest in the area $3.95. When I started driving gas was $.99 a gallon...boy do I wish it was still that low!

  7. The price of gas on base is 3.64 a gallon.

I still remember when we left Idaho, it was $1.89 and I thought that was expensive LOL

As for the second part of your question, honestly don't remember :)

  8. This might seem odd... but I have no idea. My husband walks to work and we only use the car once, maybe twice a week. We're within a mile of the grocery store and four blocks from down town. Our freezer is full of pork, beef, vegetables and homemade tomato sauce. The cupboards are full of dry beans, flour and other staples and there are still plenty of carrots in our garden. The fall crop of beets, mesclun and kale are up...

I think gasoline was around 17 cents a litre (about 68 cents a US gallon) when I started driving in '88.

  9. Well this will age me too, haha...Gas was 35 cents a gallon when I started driving. (in the 70's) I could drive all week for less than 2 or 3 bucks. Those were the days huh? We paid $3.99 yesterday for gas and that actually seemed pretty good. It has been more like $4.15! We both have REALLY good gas cars which is good as it is sooo ridiculous what it costs! Have a good day Lois!

  10. This is telling my age, but when I started driving gas was a little over 30 cents a gallon if I remember correctly. You could also buy a loaf of bread for 20-25 cents! A soda for 10 cents. A new car cost less than 3K!
It's been fluctuating lately, but yesterday I saw the price for gas here was 3.59.

  11. I just filled up our car yesterday and we buy premium at 4.21 a gallon. Wow, I can't remember what gas was when I started driving but I do remember as a little kid is was around 45 cents a gallon.

  12. I don't remember the price when I first started driving, though I do remember when it went to 69¢. I thought it would break the budget. Let's see, that would have been somewhere in the mid 70s. Gas in our town is $4.03 for regular this morning.

  13. I saw gas for $3.65 here yesterday. It seems to have gone down about 10 cents since last week. Hmmm, I don't remember what it was when I started driving. If my hubby were home I'd ask him. He remembers everything like that especially if it involves numbers :).

  14. $3.60 now...about 30 cents when I started driving!

  15. When I first started driving in 1973, gas was 39 cents a gallon, and to think I was outraged at paying 60 cents just a few months later. Right now regular is selling for $3.88, so I long for that 60 cents a gallon I despised so long ago!

  16. It was 3.99 two weeks ago but back "down" to 3.79. It's so tough!

  17. Gas here is $3.47 or so as of yesterday. You know I don't remember what it was when I started driving. That would have been back in 1979 or so and I can't remember. I'll have to see if Jason remembers or look it up on the internet....I really don't remember things like that! lol!

  18. Hi lois,
Gas around here is at $3.78 for regular, we get gas at Sam's mostly.
I couldn't remember how much gas cost when I first learned to drive but hubby says he thinks it was about
.31 cents a gal, and he was born in 1948. Amazing!
I looked up 1968, which was when I started driving, might have been a year earlier, but it was .33 cents
    a gallon.

    Well, have a great day.
    Love ya, Nellie

  20. It's $3.89 here which is ridiculous. It takes 80 bucks to fill my truck up and then I try desperately to make it last for the whole month.
I'm thinking horse and buggy would be cheaper!
I can't honestly remember how much gas was when I first started driving but I know that it was no where near what it is now.
