Scripture Sunday...

Happy Father's Day!

I saw this on my college friend, Linda's, Facebook wall this week
and thought what a great thing to use for
Scripture Sunday AND Father's Day...

A few weeks after my father died
I was trying to read my Bible and find something to comfort me.

I was reading in Corinthians, well sort of reading, sort of feeling sorry for myself,
when all of a sudden the following verse jumped out at me...

II Corinthians 6:18
"I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons
and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

How amazing is that?

The Lord was telling me that even though my earthly father was no longer
present in my life, my HEAVENLY Father has always been with me
and will continue to be with me FOREVER.

My dad and I...

And another GREAT father,
my Colonel and our kids last fall...

Happy Father's Day Colonel...

We love you and miss you!

As I do on most Sundays,
I am linking my post up with Lorraine's Blog.

Please head over for more wonderful
posts to read.

  6. Hi Lois....Enjoyed your post. Yes, our Heavenly Father is the same today as He was yesterday and the same as He'll be tomorrow. He'll never abandon us or forsake us and is always there for us if we need Him. Thanks for your visit to my blog and for your comment, too! Take care. Susan

  7. Although I hardly knew my earthly father, I am grateful for a Heavenly Father who loves me and watches over me. "Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him — his name is the Lord. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling."(Ps 68:4,5)

  12. I lost my father when I was 18 (the time I needed him most), and I spent many, many years lost and not finding any comfort at all. Just recently (a couple year ago) I have found my comfort (my heavenly Father). I found this comfort while taking a religion class in college. During this class I felt like something was missing. Jesus in my life was missing. I am now at an ease and my spiritual journey has been fulfilling to me. What a great post!!

  13. That sure was a perfect verse to find comfort in after the loss of your dad. I love seeing the sweet photo of you and your dad when you were just a tot. And the photo of the Colonel and your kids is very special. Thanks so much for sharing on Think on These Things!
