Homemade Hamburger "Helper"...

Monday, June 25, 2012

Good Morning...
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
It was pretty nice here.

I know I must sound like a broken record when I start out a post by saying,
"I love Pinterest," OR "I found this great recipe."
But seriously, I really enjoy searching for new recipes
to make for my family and I found a good one recently.

I made quite a few adjustments to the original recipe,
only because I found the recipe a little difficult to follow.

You can go HERE to see the original post.

Pasta with Cheese and Tomatoes
(Homemade Hamburger Helper)

Growing up we never had Hamburger Helper, but when I saw this recipe
I knew it would be something my family would like and they did...

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
1 can diced tomatoes
tomato sauce, about 1 cup
3 cups uncooked pasta
mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, about 1 cup each
seasonings...I used parsley, basil and garlic

Begin by browning your ground beef and drain the fat.
Then add the can of diced tomatoes and the tomato sauce.
I only used 1/2 of this amount in the casserole.
I froze the other 1/2 for a future casserole...

Cook the pasta according to the package directions.
Drain and add to the meat mixture, along with your seasonings.
I used fresh parsley, basil (from my garden) and garlic...

Now add the cheeses...

Add the entire mixture to a baking dish and bake at 350
until bubbly and hot...

Add a side salad and DINNER IS READY...

This was a DELICIOUS meal.
Not at all like a baked ziti and it was even better the next day.

Again, you can find the original recipe HERE.

Don't forget, tomorrow is Tuesday's Question
and it's a GOOD one!

Enjoy your day!

  1. I grew up eating this homemade dish. I bet we had it twice a week! And I love it. The only problem is that it doesn't have edges and it's pasta. Those should both send up red flags to me. lol

  4. Morning Lois,
wow, that hb helper meal looks quite good, might just have to give it a try.
Hope you and Olivia have a really fun day shopping. I was thinking about going to HomeGoods today, but it has been raining all morning. Not thrilled about driving or being out in the rain if I don't have to be, so guess it will keep for another day.
    blessings, Nellie

  9. This looks really good. I used to put tomato sauce and hamburger with the kraft mac and cheese. I loved it, not so sure about my Hubs. Yours looks much better than Kraft.

  10. This sounds amazing like a recipe I used to make all the time when my kids were at home. It was always almost fought over by my boys, and we never had a left over, haha. The only thing I added was a little onion to the browning hamburger. I used whatever cheese I had on hand too. This brought back memories as I haven't made it in years. : )

  12. Lois, this recipe is a Keeper, I love hamburger helper, but quit buying the boxed kind, because it contained MSG. I am thrilled to find this and will try real soon. Isn't it wonderful to go outside and cut your own herbs and veggies. I have been wondering how your garden was doing.
Enjoy the shopping with your daughter. Susan will be home in August, and we will make up for lost time. ~smile~
Thanks for taking the time to share such wonderful recipes.
    Hugs,
    Sue
