Tuesday's Question...

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Today's Tuesday Question should be a pretty obvious one.

"What is your favorite Christmas song?"

I love Christmas music.

And sometimes it's hard to come up with just one FAVORITE song.
BUT...
I really, really, really love...

SILENT NIGHT

And I love to hear it in German.

It is so beautiful.
It reminds me of my youth.
It reminds me of my dad...

Every year, as part of the youth choir in our church, we would sing
Christmas carols and songs
in the International Arrival Building
at Kennedy Airport.

Here we are a LONG time ago.
My mom was the choir director and she's all the way on the
right with the maroon jacket and white blouse next to Larry who was singing
O Tannenbaum...

One of the songs that the choir would sing was
Silent Night.

The choir would sing in English
and then someone would sing in Italian, Spanish, I think Russian and then
the whole choir would sing in German.

It was beautiful.

Today when I hear Silent Night being sung in German,
all I have to do is close my eyes
and I'm transported back in time.

I'm standing on the balcony overlooking the
International Arrival Building in Kennedy Airport
with my friends singing my favorite Christmas song...

Silent Night
and I'm remembering what a wonderful time it was
and how much I would love to do that again!

On the menu at our house tonight:

Yes, yesterday's post is cooking in my crock pot
and I am spending the day shopping with my girl!

Enjoy your day!

  13. I've never heard Silent Night in German (or any language expect English, actually), but that sounds like such an incredible tradition. Just beautiful.
