Census 2010

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Did you fill out your census form this year?
I know there's been so much controversy to the whole thing.

But  like the good citizen, Army loving wife I am,  I filled ours out last week.

And guess what?

I was NOT allowed to count the Colonel
as part of our household.

The government has decided that since the Colonel
is not living here at home this year,
he's not part of our household.

I guess they forgot that he's spending the year in
Afghanistan fighting to keep this country safe.

Does that mean that the government is viewing
this household as a single mother with two teenagers living here?

Don't worry Colonel, I still consider you to be not only a part of this household,
but the HEAD of this household.

I miss you more and more each day.

  1. I know, the Defense Department counts the active duty overseas troops separately, and frankly I trust them to keep a bit better of an eye on where the service members are...

Such a pretty picture of you two!

  2. You and your husband are adorable. So is it true that he will be counted by the defense department - hate he couldn't be counted with you.

  3. PS Don't have your email - but wanted to say I hope my GS doesn't change his mind when he is older about the mohawk.

They do look silly and I often wonder why kids to do it?

  4. What a wonderful picture! That just sounds crazy that you were not allowed to count your husband as a part of your household. I mean, come on! But, back to that picture.. it's great! -Tammy

  5. That so doesn't surprise me. Our government is as backwards as they come. I think you should make up your own Census card that includes the Colonel and stick it in the envelope with the "real" one!

  6. I just filled mine out last week too. I think we were supposed to do it by April 1st, but I didn't get around to it. I love the photo of you two. Btw, the mountains where your husband is look alot like the mountains around us. I've heard their desert is alot hotter than ours though.
Thanks for your sweet comments on my marriage post :-)

  7. I can't believe they didn't count him..we thought they asked some pretty personal questions..you two look so cute together and you have a beautiful smile..;)

  8. I love the pic of you both! You are such a beautiful woman!
That sounds crazy that the colonel wouldn't be counted as part of your household. I'm sure there is a good reason but it's still strange. Your love for him is evident in every post. I pray the rest of the colonels time there goes by swiftly for you. Blessings

  9. That's strange, It's still his home! Love the pic of you two, you're so cute together:)

  10. Sometimes our government is strange in its systems. Love that picture, you are just as I imagine...always a bright smile :). I showed my hubby the living quarters, he said they werent too bad, he had a tent in egypt and turkey with flies all over -yuck!!!
Have a great day! God Bless you and your hubby.

  11. I filled mine out the day I got it and put it back in the mail. If I waited I'd would have forgotten.
What a beautiful photo of the 2 of you.
That really surprised me that he could not be counted with you.
Continue prayers for his safe return. A big salute to all our military that are away from their loved ones.

  12. Morning Sunshine,
What a beautiful pic of you two,
and you are such a handsome couple,
I think you are very pretty!
I know the census is sort of strange, we even heard that all those extra questions they ask really aren't suppose to be asked,
but who knows. I couldn't remember if they were on the last one or not.
Most importantly He is and always will be part of your family, no matter what the census or the government thinks!!
Have you been able to speak with him more lately?? Hope so hon,
    Ima praying!! lol
    Love and Blessings, Nellie

  13. What a GREAT picture of the two of you...you look soo happy...soo pretty. So much flew into my head about our recent government when I read this, but I think I'll stick to what my mama taught me here. "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." haha Have a wonderful week-end Lois. I'm sorry you are missing him so, but hope the days are flying by as fast for you as they do for me recently.. = )

  14. Wow, that is sad about the census! You are a lovely couple:)

  15. That is just plain old crap!!!! I know you miss him but you are so beautiful together.

  16. Hi Sweet Friend ~

Well, what does the government know about a "Home" anyway?
The LORD builds a HOME from two hearts that are committed to Him and to each other.
Precious photo of the two of you!
You are a blessed wife and mother.
And we are blessed that families like yours sacrifice so much for our safety. Praising God for you and yours. Love always ~

  17. And we keep electing the ejits to office and don't allow the government "servants" to, EVER, be fired!
    God help us all.

  18. Great photo of you two! Sometimes I just don't understand why the gov. does some of the things they do.

  19. It is a puzzlement how the government thinks! That's for sure!!

On our census we couldn't count our son who lives at college...go figure.

It seems to me that it would be impossible to get an accurate actual count of members of our family that way. Like you said about the makeup of your family, it would look we only have one dependent child in our family. Believe me there are still TWO!:)

Great photo of you two!! Hang in there, your hubby's return gets closer with each day!!:)

  20. oh you poor thing! talk about some trials! Well don't you worry your pretty curls any! We will be praying for you and God always has this way of turning things around...... you are 1/3 of the way through your year :-)

  21. Lois, I had to do the same thing with Noah..my first year to ever fill out a Census and I didn't even get to count him! By the way great pic! You guys look so cute together...hang in there girl!

  22. I did my duty and filled it out, too! Thats so wierd that you couldn't count him in! He lives there other than deployments! Love that pic of you two!

  23. Lois, same with my college kids. Actually, Rick works out of town during the week, and he had to be part of the hotel count. God bless you and the General. Praying for our men and women overseas.
Have you and the General heard of OathKeepers?

  24. I agree with Chatty...you and the Colonel make a cute couple...I hope he is back home with you real soon...Thanks for stopping by my blog...You asked if I was from New York...Nope, a Jersey girl..born and raised there until we moved down South in the late 70's...planning on moving back someday to the Jersey shore...

  25. What a wonderful picture of you too! I was thinking that maybe the government counts oversees troops separately? I don't know these things--just a thought. I'm sure it has nothing to do with how they view his job as a father and a husband--he's a very good one at that!!

  26. Great picture of you and the colonel!
I hope he is doing well over there.
Are you recovered from your fall?
I glad it was not worse.
    Take care.

  27. I love the photo of you and the colonel. As I've heard it said..."the only thing the government gets right is the military".

  28. Lovely picture! When I was filling ours out, I thought 'The Lord is really the head of our household and He does live here all the time, but I bet they don't want us to count Him either"! ha! ha!

  29. Are.you.kidding.me? Really - what is their definition of citizen....
Well, I'm not getting started - but you and the Colonel are adorable!!

  30. Love the pic of you and the colonel. I don't understand our government's "take" on the census...

  31. That is so sad.
    You are such a BEAUTIFUL
    couple! I loved what you
    said about the Colonel being
    the head of your household.

    Many Blessings~ Jen

  32. That is a nonsense to me! He should be counted!

    Have a lovely day!

  33. Hey there I chose you to play a game on my blog..so stop by and check it out.;)

  34. Well, if this is not just the sweetest post! I know if "The Colonel" reads this it will likely make him bust the buttons off his uniform with pride in the wife who is keeping the household going while he's off serving our country!

    God bless y'all !
