Hello from Myrtle Beach...Friday, July 25, 2008
As I type this, Michael is sleeping next to me on the sofa sleeper. For some reason he's thrilled that he gets to sleep here. There is a bed for him, but he chooses this...go figure. Olivia is still asleep in her room and the Colonel is doing laundry. What a wonderful vacation!
Getting here was okay. We did manage to hit the road by 4:00 AM Tuesday morning. We decided not to take Route 95 through Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington. We thought we would get stuck in tremendous traffic. So we took Route 81. It was such a beautiful way to go! Right through the Blue Ridge Mountains. I think it added about 1 1/2 hours but it was so much better than sitting in traffic. Plus I hate 95 through Baltimore. Something about those tunnels. We picked up 95 in Virginia.
The only downside to our trip was getting on Route 501 off of 95 heading to Myrtle Beach. It's about 70 miles on this route but it was 70 miles of pure torture. Stop and go, etc. Not to mention the lovely pick up truck that passed us losing something from his truck and hitting our windshield, cracking it! Yes, exactly two months to the day when we were on the NY Thruway heading to the cemetery when another dump truck passed us losing something from his truck and shattering our back side window. So, the Colonel is waiting for a call from the guy to replace our windshield sometime this morning. Fun.
Our room is great. The hotel is great and the ocean is great. Although, I've only been in it once. I am repeating my vacation from last year...lazy river, laying on the lounge chair by the pool reading. I'm on book number 2 already.
We head home Sunday...enjoy the pictures!
